3rd July Camberwell Back where I started from.

Kms to get here 171          Kms to date  2300

So I have ridden 2300 kms through some terrible weather to get back where I started from!  I decided that as SA had the same Border Restrictions for Melbourne as for rural Victoria,   I could do my reorganization of the trip better at home.  I plan to leave Melbourne on the 9th July and stop at Wycheproof and then move up to Mildura before entering SA on the 11th of July.  I will ride up the Stuart Hwy through Alice Springs and meet up with Morag in Katherine.

All our existing bookings have been cancelled.  Alan is locked down in Sydney and has given up on the idea of doing the "lap" with me. He was worried I was going to beat him at Gin Rummy.  He has signed up for the Official Ride leaving on 5th October.  He hopes that there may be a Vaccine Passport that will allow them to bypass border closures - very wishful thinking.  A bit like thinking that Qld would never close its border with Sydney just before the school holidays!

Morag is off in Carnarvon Gorge NP.  She had a lot of car trouble with the battery going flat over night at Hebel. I contacted Hyundai and they arranged a tow truck to come from St George.  The car was going to be towed to Brisbane as that was the nearest Hyundai dealer.  The tow truck driver got the car going again with jumper leads and after spending the night in St George, Morag was on her way.

We eventually worked out that it was due to her sleeping in the car with the "Smart" key.  This turned on all the computer systems as it thought she was going to drive off.  Instead the battery went flat and she didn't drive off anywhere.  The solution was to wrap the key in tin foil!  However that was not the end of her battery troubles.
